What's the race's mission?

The race's mission is to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy a fun, healthy Thanksgiving activity together, and to raise support for six local charities:  Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), A-SPAN, Arlington Thrive,  Bridges to Independence (formerly AACH), OAR, and Young Life.

What can you expect?

Participants -- young and old, human and canine -- meander through the Lyon Park and Ashton Heights neighborhoods. Some racers wear the popular race T-shirt while others wear leftover Halloween costumes, turkey and pilgrim garb, or even Christmas attire. It’s not uncommon to see adults with poultry on their heads or Santas running with their elves!

Where does the money go?

Christ Church of Arlington donates all net proceeds from the event to six local beneficiaries. Over the past twelve years the race has raised nearly $600,000 for the beneficiaries.   Funding from sponsors also plays a role in raising donations. If you or your business is interested in supporting or sponsoring the Turkey Trot, please contact our Race Director, Mark Riley today at (703) 927-0328 or email us at ArlingtonTurkeyTrot@gmail.com. See our Sponsorship Brochure for more details.

How many folks participate?

In 2006, only 300 people were in the first race. By 2013, more than 3,000 entered the race ... and the number keeps growing!  More than 4,000 registered for 2017!

I can't run, but I really want to participate in this great event.  What can I do?

You can be a volunteer!  Our great volunteers have played key roles in making the Turkey Trot so successful.  Email us at arlingtonturkeytrot@gmail.com to volunteer.

What should I wear?

Your Turkey Trot T-shirt, of course! Get it at Packet Pick-up. Check the weather to see if you should wear a long-sleeve shirt under it. That's what most folks do. Then again, some wear costumes.

Is there SWAG?

You betcha! All Runners registered by November 1st will be guaranteed as part of their race registration, an Arlington Turkey Trot cotton Tee.  During registration, you may choose (for an additional $20) to upgrade from the navy cotton tee, to a Navy Long Sleeve Performance Tee.

What about water?

A water station is on the route for your thirsty convenience! You also can get water and snacks at the end of the race at Lyon Park.

How fast are the runners?

This is a turkey race, not a chicken race! You can do it!

Check out our results page to see some past race results

What about PRIZES?

The prize ceremony will be held following the race, near Lyon Park (414 N. Fillmore), to recognize the top male and female finishers overall and the top male and female finishers in multiple age groups. No stroller prizes.

What's going on Post-Race?

We'll have live music from The Buzzhounds to keep you entertained!

May my dog come?

Sure! If your dog is well-behaved, on a leash and good around a LOT of people, you are more than welcome to bring him or her. We've had many canines do this fowl race. The bird dogs are especially good. Don't forget the little baggies. (It might be best to start near the back of the race for your dog's comfort.)

May I run with my stroller?

Yes.  Baby strollers and Baby joggers will be allowed to race from the back of the pack.

What about bathrooms?

Thanks to one of our sponsors, Don's Johns, fresh portable restrooms will be located near the beginning and the end of the race.

What is your refund policy?

Unfortunately, there are no refunds for this event. We also do not accept transfers or deferments for this event.

May I pick up a packet for friends or family?

Yes, you may pick up a packet for someone else. Please make sure they are aware that you will be picking up their packet.

Is there a baggage drop?

What about parking?

On-street parking is available in the neighborhood.

Is the course safe?

The Arlington Police Department works closely with CCA to ensure safety. Police and volunteers guide runners/walkers and divert automobile traffic from the route. Medical personnel are on call for treatment, if necessary.
