15th Annual Turkey Trot Goes Virtual

Dear Friends of the Arlington Turkey Trot,

Given COVID-19 and the importance of maintaining social distancing, the Arlington Turkey Trot 15th anniversary will be a virtual affair in 2020.
What does this mean?
While registering on the Turkey Trot website as in past years, we will not run together on Thanksgiving morning.
Rather, you will run on your own, wherever and whenever you choose the week/end of Thanksgiving starting on Wednesday November 25.
You may wish to use the Turkey Trot course, see our homepage for the course map, or another certified 5K course, such as the one on the WOD trail starting at Bluemont shelter (intersection of Wilson Blvd), turning around at Sycamore, (adjacent to the soccer field), or another course of your choosing, whether or not it is an official 5K course.
This year sports a new tee design, featuring ” Major Tom” riding a drone, symbolic of the aerial filming of the Trot anticipated for this year, that will be filmed instead when we are all back together in 2021.
A special pre-Trot promotional video that traverses the official course will be developed to encourage your participation and track your progress.
This year the registration fee will include the tee shirt and bib (swag for your bulletin board or scrapbook) as there will be no official timing other than the timing you choose to do with your own device.
Long sleeve tech tees are $20 additional and Major Tom masks $5. You may also opt, on the registration online form, to have your shirt, mask and bib mailed to you for $5 or pick up your loot at the church on Monday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 24 from 12-6, 3020 N Pershing Drive, Arlington 22201.
For your consideration, in celebration of the 15th anniversary, coloring books and medals for the kids also will be available at the church, first come first serve until they are gone.
We have added a more robust social media presence and Give Lively, a peer to peer fundraising platform, on the website in order to generate more giving opportunities for our beneficiaries — AFAC, ASPAN, THRIVE, BRIDGES, OAR, and YOUNG LIFE.
Please spread the word about these critical nonprofits who have labored tirelessly, especially this year, on behalf of our neighbors who need a hand up!
While missing ‘in person’ this year, I hope that you will still register and run, while having family fun and helping our neighbors who count on you.
Giving thanks for all we have and all we have to give.
With appreciation,
Mark Riley
